New Medicare provider authentication requirements
implemented
Effective April 6, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS) will require providers to provide the following three data
elements for authentication when calling either the Interactive Voice Response
(IVR) system or a Customer Service Representative (CSR), as well as in written
inquiries:
1. The provider's
National Provider Identifier (NPI).
2. The provider's
Provider Transaction Access Number (PTAN).
3. The last five
digits of the provider's Tax Identification Number (TIN).
